Stree 2 is the perfect movie for a weekend. Continuing the success of their horror-comedy, Maddock Films has tapped the talents of Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor and Pankaj Tripathi in this fourth addition to the universe.
Maddock Films introduced the franchise in 2018 with Stree, which quickly became a fan favourite. Following its success, the production house expanded its Maddock Cinematic Universe with the releases of Bhediya and Munjya, each adding new layers and depth to the unique horror-comedy universe.
Stree 2 can become a little confusing if you haven’t seen these previous additions, yet it’s a fun watch.
Continuing the story from the first movie from 2018, Stree 2 deals with the repercussions of the group managing to defeat the wicked ‘Stree ghost’ ... there’s a bigger threat out there. Nearly all the cast are in fine form, with a special shout-out going to Pankaj, who can do no wrong when it comes to roles.
The first half does feel more put together than the second one. It’s, however, hilarious, with jokes and scares coming at you in breakneck pace.
The second half does feel like a slight letdown in comparison.
Stree 2 transitions from being a small-town comedy-horror caper to a pseudo superhero movie.
The music is good but I fail to comprehend why the best song came as the credits rolled.
Stree 2 has a couple of cameos that are just well done. It never feels like they take away from the main story, but rather add to it.
PS: There is a mid credit scene once the movie ends that points to the future of the horror-comedy universe.
Verdict: The perfect movie for a weekend. A fun time for all ages.
